In 2001, after a concert in Kansas City, Lillian was stabbed after a show because of his opinion on the events of 9/11. In 2004, Lillian was involved in a similar incident when after a show at the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas he was shot and pistol whipped because of his on-stage talk disparaging the Republican Party.[2] In 2006, while opening for Alter Bridge in Switzerland, Berlin's politics allegedly caused members of Alter Bridge to attack Living Things' guitarist Cory Becker and Berlin's brother, Bosh Berlin.[3] Alter Bridge denies the Living Things' side of the story, saying Cory Becker attacked their crew members. In 2004 he was arrested at The Republican Convention in New York for protesting George Bush. In 2005, Berlin's Gibson Black ES-335 caught on fire at Los Angeles Club The Troubadour during a raucous sold out performance that stopped the show mid set. In 2009, Berlin released the controversial book "Postmortem Bliss" which chronicles teen prescription drug abuse in the late 90's. An excerpt from the book was turned into a short film for Turner Classic Movies, and directed by his wife, Floria Sigismondi.
